| Devices we can provide
PTAP can only provide pre-commercial, photonic devices. By pre-commercial, we mean alpha or beta prototypes. The provider can be sampling the device to potential customers in limited quantities.
Under special circumstances a device that would ordinarily be classified as commercial can be acquired by PTAP. An example of such a situation is one where the researcher requires device performance that lies significantly outside the normal performance specifications of the commercial device. In such a case PTAP would acquire a hand-selected, specially tested device that meets the researcher's requirements.
Another example is where a partially processed or completed wafer or device is withdrawn from the production line and provided to the researcher for subsequent processing or fabrication.
What do we mean by device?
PTAP defines photonic devices broadly. Within the scope of the program a photonic device can be:
- Materials
- Specialized processing
- Components
- Modules
- Subsystems
