| Submitting a Proposal
PTAP awards devices purchased
with government funds to researchers based on proposals that are reviewed by a committee
consisting of members selected from academia, government, and industry. PTAP issues
a solicitation several times a year requesting proposals.
Each solicitation has a cutoff date, and proposals received after that date will be considered
with the next solicitation.
The review criteria used by the committee are articulated in the solicitation and may change.
For this reason, proponents are strongly advised to read the current solicitation, even if
they had submitted proposals previously. PTAP encourages proposals prepared by students that
are reviewed by the professor prior to submission. This is an opportunity to teach students
about the proposal preparation process. To help the evaluators, PTAP requests that each
proposal identify the person[s] preparing the proposal and their academic level
(i.e. undergraduate student, graduate student, post-doc, research staff, assistant professor, professor, etc.).
Proposals may request more than one device, but all devices must be for the specific project identified
in the proposal. Proponents, however, should understand that the program budget is limited and the program has
to maximize its impact across multiple researchers and institutions. As such, the program may choose to make a
partial award if it still enables the researchers to complete the bulk of the proposed work.
